Ezekiel 40:3-49

3So He brought me there; and behold, there was a man whose appearance was like the appearance of abronze, with a bline of flax and a cmeasuring

rod in his hand; and he was standing in the gateway.
4The man said to me, eSon of man, fsee with your eyes, hear with your ears, and give attention to all that I am going to show you; for you have been brought here in order to show it to you. gDeclare to the house of Israel all that you see.”

Measurements Relating to the Temple

5And behold, there was a hwall on the outside of the
Lit house
temple all around, and in the man’s hand was a measuring rod of six cubits, each of which was a cubit and a

handbreadth. So he measured the thickness of the
Lit building
wall, one rod; and the height, one rod.
6Then he went to the gate which faced least, went up its steps and measured the threshold of the gate, one rod
Or in depth
in width; and the other threshold was one rod
Or in depth
in width.
7The oguardroom was one rod long and one rod wide; and there were five cubits between the guardrooms. And the threshold of the gate by the porch of the gate
Lit from the house
facing inward was one rod.
8Then he measured the porch of the gate
Lit from the house
facing inward, one rod.
9He measured the porch of the gate, eight cubits; and its side pillars, two cubits. And the porch of the gate was
Lit from the house
faced inward.
10The guardrooms of the gate toward the east numbered three on each side; the three of them had the same measurement. The side pillars also had the same measurement on each side. 11And he measured the width of the
Lit entrance of the gate
gateway, ten cubits, and the length of the gate, thirteen cubits.
12There was a
Lit border
barrier wall one cubit wide in front of the guardrooms on each side; and the guardrooms were six cubits square on each side.
13He measured the gate from the roof of the one guardroom to the roof of the other, a width of twenty-five cubits from one door to the door opposite. 14He made the side pillars sixty cubits high; the gate extended round about to the side pillar of the ucourtyard. 15From the front of the entrance gate to the front of the inner porch of the gate was fifty cubits. 16There were
Or beveled inwards
,
wshuttered windows looking toward the guardrooms, and toward their side pillars within the gate all around, and likewise for the porches. And there were windows all around inside; and on each side pillar were xpalm tree ornaments.

17Then he brought me into the youter court, and behold, there were zchambers and a pavement made for the court all around; thirty chambers
Lit to
faced the pavement.
18The pavement (that is, the lower pavement) was by the
Lit shoulder
side of the gates, corresponding to the length of the gates.
19Then he measured the width from the front of the aclower gate to the front of the exterior of the inner court, a adhundred cubits on the east and on the north.

20 As for the aegate of the outer court which faced the north, he measured its length and its width. 21
Lit its guardrooms were three

22Its alwindows and its porches and its palm tree ornaments had the same measurements as the amgate which faced toward the east; and
Lit they were going up into it
it was reached by seven aosteps, and its

porch was in front of them.
23The inner court had a gate opposite the gate on the north as well as the gate on the east; and he measured a aqhundred cubits from gate to gate.

24Then he led me toward the south, and behold, there was a argate toward the south; and he measured its asside pillars and its porches according to

The gate and its porches had avwindows all around like

26There were seven aysteps going up to it, and its porches were in front of them; and it had azpalm tree ornaments on its side pillars, one on each side. 27The inner court had a gate toward the basouth; and he measured from gate to gate toward the south, a bbhundred cubits.

28Then he brought me to the inner court by the south gate; and he measured the south gate bcaccording to those same measurements. 29Its bdguardrooms also, its side pillars and its beporches were according to those same measurements. And

the gate and its porches had bgwindows all around; it was bhfifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide.
30There were biporches all around, twenty-five cubits long and five cubits wide. 31Its porches were toward the outer court; and bjpalm tree ornaments were on its side pillars, and its stairway had eight bksteps.

32He brought me into the blinner court toward the east. And he measured the gate bmaccording to those same measurements. 33Its bnguardrooms also, its side pillars and its porches were according to those same measurements. And

34Its brporches were toward the outer court; and bspalm tree ornaments were on its side pillars, on each side, and its stairway had eight btsteps.

35Then he brought me to the bunorth gate; and he measured it according to those same measurements, 36with its bvguardrooms, its side pillars and its bwporches. And

37Its side pillars were toward the outer court; and capalm tree ornaments were on its side pillars on each side, and its stairway had eight cbsteps.

38A ccchamber with its doorway was by the side pillars at the gates; there they cdrinse the burnt offering. 39In the porch of the gate were two cetables on each side, on which to slaughter the cfburnt offering, the sin offering and the guilt offering. 40On the outer

41Four cktables were on each side

42For the burnt offering there were four cmtables of cnhewn stone, a cubit and a half long, a cubit and a half wide and one cubit high, on which they lay the instruments with which they slaughter the coburnt offering and the sacrifice. 43The double

hooks, one handbreadth in length, were installed

44From the outside to the crinner gate were

45He said to me, “This is the czchamber which faces toward the south, intended for the priests who dakeep charge of the

temple;
46but the dcchamber which faces toward the north is for the priests who ddkeep charge of the altar. These are the desons of Zadok, who from the sons of Levi dfcome near to the Lord to minister to Him.” 47He measured the court, a perfect square, a dghundred cubits long and a hundred cubits wide; and the altar was in front of the
Lit house
temple.

48Then he brought me to the diporch of the
Lit house
temple and measured each side pillar of the porch, five cubits on each side; and the width of the gate was three cubits on each side.
49The length of the porch was twenty cubits and the width eleven cubits; and at the dkstairway by which it was ascended were dlcolumns belonging to the side pillars, one on each side.

Ezekiel 41

The Inner Temple

1Then he dmbrought me to the
I.e. the main inner hall
,
donave and measured the dpside pillars; six cubits wide on each side was the width of the
Lit tent
side pillar.
2The width of the entrance was ten cubits and the
Lit shoulders
sides of the entrance were five cubits on each side. And he measured
Lit its length,
the length of the nave, dtforty cubits, and the width, dutwenty cubits.
3Then he went
I.e. of the inner sanctuary
,
dwinside and measured each dxside pillar of the doorway, two cubits, and the doorway, six cubits high; and the width of the doorway, seven cubits.
4He measured its length, dytwenty cubits, and the width, twenty cubits, before the dznave; and he said to me, “This is the eamost holy place.”

5Then he measured the wall of the
Lit house, and so throughout the ch
temple, six cubits; and the width of the ecside chambers, four cubits, all around about the house on every side.
6 edThe side chambers were in three stories,
Lit chamber upon chamber
one above another, and

thirty in each story; and
Lit they were coming
the side chambers ehextended to the wall which stood on
Lit the inside of the side chambers
their inward side all around, that they might be fastened, and not be fastened into the wall of the temple itself.
7The side chambers surrounding the temple were wider at each successive story. Because the ejstructure surrounding the temple went upward by stages on all sides of the temple, therefore the width of the temple increased as it went higher; and thus one went up from the lowest story to the highest by way of the
Lit middle
second story.
8I saw also that the house had a raised
Lit height
platform all around; the foundations of the side chambers were a full rod of emsix

long cubits in height.
9The
Lit width
thickness of the outer wall of the side chambers was five cubits. But the epfree space between the side chambers belonging to the temple
10and the outer eqchambers was twenty cubits in width all around the temple on every side. 11The
Lit doorway
doorways of the

side chambers toward the etfree space consisted of one doorway toward the north and another doorway toward the south; and the width of the eufree space was five cubits all around.

12The evbuilding that was in front of the ewseparate area at the side toward the west was seventy cubits wide; and the wall of the building was five cubits
Lit wide
thick all around, and its length was ninety cubits.

13Then he measured the temple, a eyhundred cubits long; the ezseparate area with the fabuilding and its walls were also a fbhundred cubits long. 14Also the width of the front of the temple and that of the separate

areas along the east side totaled a hundred cubits.

15He measured the length of the fdbuilding

along the front of the ffseparate area behind it, with a

16The fithresholds, the

fmgalleries round about their fnthree stories, opposite the threshold, were fopaneled with wood all around, and from the ground to the windows (but the windows were covered),
17over the entrance, and to the inner house, and on the outside, and on all the wall all around inside and outside, by measurement. 18It was

carved with fqcherubim and frpalm trees; and a palm tree was between cherub and cherub, and every cherub had two faces,
19a fsman’s face toward the palm tree on one side and a young ftlion’s face toward the palm tree on the other side; they were
Lit made
carved on all the house all around.
20From the ground to above the entrance fvcherubim and fwpalm trees were
Lit made
carved, as well as on the wall of the nave.

21The fydoorposts of the fznave were square; as for the front of the sanctuary, the appearance of one doorpost was like that of the other. 22The gaaltar was of wood, three cubits high and its length two cubits; its corners, its

base and its
Lit walls
sides were of wood. And he said to me, “This is the gdtable that is before the Lord.”
23The genave and the gfsanctuary each had a double ggdoor. 24Each of the doors had two leaves, two

25Also there were

Ezekiel 42

Chambers of the Temple

1Then he gvbrought me out into the gwouter court, the way gxtoward the north; and he brought me to the gychamber which was opposite the gzseparate area and opposite the habuilding toward the north. 2Along the length, which was a hbhundred cubits, was the north door; the width was fifty cubits. 3Opposite the hctwenty cubits which belonged to the inner court, and opposite the hdpavement which belonged to the outer court, was
Or passageway
,
hfgallery corresponding to
Or passageway
gallery in three stories.
4Before the hhchambers was an inner walk ten cubits wide, a way of one hundred cubits; and their openings were on the north. 5Now the upper chambers were
Lit shorter
smaller because the
Or passageways
,
hkgalleries took more space away from them than from the lower and middle ones in the building.
6For they were in hlthree stories and had no pillars like the pillars of the courts; therefore the upper chambers were
Or reduced
set back from the ground upward, more than the lower and middle ones.
7As for the hnouter wall by the side of the chambers, toward the outer court facing the chambers, its length was fifty cubits. 8For the length of the chambers which were in the outer court was fifty cubits; and behold, the length of those facing the temple was a hohundred cubits. 9Below these chambers was the hpentrance on the east side, as one enters them from the outer court.

10In the
Lit width
thickness of the hrwall of the court toward the east, facing the hsseparate area and facing the building, there were htchambers.
11The huway in front of them was like the appearance of the chambers which were on the north, according to their length so was their width, and all their exits were both according to their arrangements and openings. 12Corresponding to the openings of the chambers which were toward the south was an opening at the head of the way, the way in front of the hvwall toward the east, as one enters them.

13Then he said to me, “The north chambers and the south chambers, which are opposite the hwseparate area, they are the hxholy chambers where the priests who are hynear to the Lord shall eat the hzmost holy things. There they shall lay the most holy things, the grain offering, the sin offering and the guilt offering; for the place is holy. 14When the priests enter, then they shall not go out into the outer court from the sanctuary
Lit but there they shall lay
without iblaying there their icgarments in which they minister, for they are holy. They shall put on other garments; then they shall approach that which is for the people.”

15Now when he had finished measuring the inner house, he brought me out by the way of the idgate which faced toward the east and measured it all around. 16He measured on the east side with the measuring reed five hundred reeds by the iemeasuring reed. 17He measured on the north side five hundred reeds by the measuring reed. 18On the south side he measured five hundred reeds with the measuring reed. 19He turned to the west side and measured five hundred reeds with the measuring reed. 20He measured it
Lit toward the four winds
on the four sides; it had a igwall all around, the ihlength five hundred and the iiwidth five hundred, to ijdivide between the holy and the profane.
